The Chamber of Commerce Future Face of Business Award 2015

Chamber of Commerce Business Awards 2015, awarded to Solihull Health Check Clinic, for their innovative and cutting edge contribution to saving lives.

On Thursday evening, 23rd April, the Greater Birmingham Chamber of Commerce held their annual  glittering dinner and awards ceremony at the International Convention Centre in Birmingham.  The event was sponsored by Birmingham City Council and Mondelez International, with all funds raised on the evening going to Birmingham based Cure Leukaemia.  Emma Jesson was the compere for the evening and a number of prestigious speakers were on hand to offer the entertainment.

Eileen and Patrick Fegan are the founders of Solihull Health Check Clinic, based in Dickens Heath.  Eileen is the Clinical Director of Health Care and Pat is the Managing/Operations Director and together they have built up an award winning Early Diagnosis Health Clinic, which is saving lives by providing affordable, convenient, painless and professional Health Screening.  Eileen has been a Qualified Registered General Nurse Clinician for 25 years and has experience across a wide range of health areas, including Intensive Care, Brain & Spinal Injuries, Medicines Management and Mental Health.  Eileen was the Head of Health Care at Winson Green Prison and also held a position as Head of Stroke Services for Birmingham East and North Primary Care Trust.  Following a successful academic career, including obtaining a Bsc.Hons degree, a Teaching Certificate and an MhSc in Health Care Management, Eileen was extremely successful in her professional career and was  awarded the Foundation of Nursing Studies Award for her services to Stroke Patients and for setting up Stroke Units across Birmingham.

Last Thursday evening, Eileen and Patrick were awarded the prestigious Greater Birmingham Chamber of Commerce “Future Face of Business Award”, for their innovative and cutting edge Early Diagnosis Clinic.  Solihull Health Check Clinic is now a year old and was set up in memory of Eileen’s Father, Noel McGeoghan, who hailed from Donegal.  He died from a very simple condition, that was missed by a  GP and if diagnosed early and treated with a simple course of antibiotics, would not have taken his life.  A couple of weeks after Eileen and her family lost Noel, Eileen herself, was diagnosed with a tumour on her left optic nerve.  It was immediately treated and after 8 months of therapy, Eileen and Pat took the decision to set up an Early Diagnosis Clinic, to save lives, in memory of Noel McGeoghan.  With Eileen’s experience of Health Care and Pat’s knowledge and experience of business management, the partnership has proved a massive success.   Pat and Eileen are now passionate about preventing ill-health before it happens, by diagnosing potentially deadly conditions early.  The Chamber of Commerce Award has been dedicated to Eileen’s father, to ensure his death was not in vain and to keep his memory alive, to make people realise and understand that early diagnosis and prevention of illness is incredibly important.

The Panel of 6 Judges who trawled through hundreds of nominations said;

Eileen Fegan, of Solihull Health Check Clinic, was named as Greater Birmingham Chamber of Commerce ‘ Future Face of Business’.
A Registered General Nurse and former Head of Healthcare at Winson Green Prison, she has set up an Early Diagnosis Health Clinic along with her husband and Business Partner, Pat Fegan, which is affordable, accessible and available to everyone. The clinic was set up in memory of her Father, who died of a condition that was curable but not diagnosed.
The judges said that Eileen was highly qualified and motivated healthcare professional with a raft of healthcare experience which included Ward Sister, Nurse Consultant, Director of Nursing  and Head of Stroke Services for East and North Birmingham PCT.
They added that between them, Eileen and Patrick had established an organisation that delivered right into the heart of the residential and business community, providing early diagnosis which was affordable and accessible to everyone.
The judges said that Eileen had set very ambitious personal goals as well as business targets to further these objectives, and with such drive, passion and determination, they couldn't help but be ‘exceptionally impressed’.

The Clinic has so far received 100% satisfaction from Clients, as follows;

I recently had an Essentials Plus Health Check at Solihull Health Check Clinic.  I didn’t really know what to expect and was probably a bit cynical about the sorts of tests that would be carried out (I’ve had health checks before that are dressed up as something they really aren’t (a joint and flexibility check basically meant I was asked to touch my toes in various ways!).  I was however extremely pleasantly surprised.  The service is excellent;  I had a range of tests which was both reassuring and informative.  Eileen makes everything simple to understand and gives practical suggestions as to how to make easy improvements.

I’ve already recommended Eileen and the Solihull Health Check Clinic to several of my friends and I will have no hesitation in going back every couple of years for both the reassurance the tests provide and to see if there’s anything else I could be doing to improve my health and lifestyle choices.  Helen Shute.

The Clinic is open 7 days per week, depending on demand and more information about Health Screening can be obtained from the team, on 0121 745 7400.
