Ceoliac Disease testing

1 in 100 people suffer from GLUTEN intolerance, but 4 out of 5 people do not know they have it. The test to check for Gluten Intolerance is so easy to do and the results are available within minutes.

Coeliac Disease (pronounced see-liac) and spelled Celiac in other countries is a life-long autoimmune system reacting to gluten. If a member of your family has coeliac disease, the chance of you having the condition is 1 in 100. The immune System reacts by damaging the lining of the small intestine. The small intestine is between the stomach and the large intestine (the Colon). In a healthy small intestine, there are small finger like projections that allow the body to absorb nutrients from food into the blood. If you have coeliac disease, these finger like projections become flat and you have difficulty absorbing nutrients.

Symptoms of eating gluten, or being "glutened" include headaches, diarrhoea, stomach pains and lethargy.

Once diagnosed, the only treatment for Celiac Disease is a gluten-free diet. Gluten is found in wheat, barley and rye. Some people are also sensitive to oats. Taking gluten out of the diet allows the gut to heal. If you follow a gluten-free diet following a diagnosis of being a Celiac sufferer, your test should be negative. This means that you are responding well to a gluten-free diet and there is no gluten for the immune system to react to.

If you introduce gluten back into your diet at a later date, the immune system will react and the gut lining will become damaged again.

Get yourself tested - it only takes a couple of minutes and is painless.
