STI / STD Screening
Many people with sexually transmitted infections (STIs) don’t get symptoms, so it’s worth getting tested even if you feel fine. If you think you have an STI, the earlier you’re tested, the sooner treatment can be given if it’s needed. The STI and STD are tested either by a urine sample or a blood test and results are within 3 to 5 days.
(THIS SERVICE IS COMPLETELY PRIVATE AND CONFIDENTIAL)
An STI can be passed from one person to another through sexual contact, including vaginal, anal and oral sex. You can get or pass on an STI to whoever you’re having sex with. STIs can pass between men and women, and from women to women and men to men.
Many STIs can be cured with antibiotics, however, some such as HIV, have no cure, but can be treated to prevent them from getting worse.
You can’t tell by looking at someone (including yourself) whether they’ve got an infection, so it’s important to get a check-up if you’ve had unprotected sex or think you might be at risk.
What happens at our clinic
A telephone consultation is free of charge and all students receive a 10% discount.
Whilst attending Solihull Health Check Clinic in Dickens Heath you’ll be asked for your name and some contact details, however, you do not need to give your real name but if you choose to please be assured your GP will NOT be told about your visit without your permission and your details will not leave the clinic. You will need to give a correct telephone number or email address to enable us to provide you with your results.
You will be advised when your results will be available, this does vary depending on what tests you have but you will be advised of this during your appointment.
Your appointment will be with either our clinical director or one of our registered nurses who will ask you about your medical and sexual history, including when you last had sex, whether you have had unprotected sex and when, whether you have any symptoms and why you think you may have an infection.
After gathering this information, the nurse will discuss with you what tests they will carry out, such as whether the test is a urine sample or a blood sample and this will be taken during this appointment.
